Duties and responsibilities: Veterinarians have a wide variety of career opportunities and deal with all types of animals. Job duties range from cleaning teeth and inspecting hooves to major surgery and animal euthanasia. In addition to an undergraduate degree, preferably in a science- or biology-related field, veterinarians must hold doctoral degrees in veterinary medicine pass a national licensing examination and meet any other state-specific requirements for licensing or certification.
Salary:  $86,640
Education: Veterinarians are trained in animal medicine, surgery and behavior. Graduates of veterinary programs may care for small animals, such as dogs and cats, or specialize in large animals, like horses. Due in part to high growth in the pet industry, career opportunities in this field are expected to grow faster than average in the coming years.
Veterinarians are required to complete a four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program in addition to undergraduate school. These professionals are also required to obtain licensure to practice in the profession.
