“Memorial Day”

1. What is Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed forces. The holiday, which is observed every year on the last Monday of May,^[was formerly known as Decoration Day and originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the war. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who died while in the military service. Labor Day marks its end.

4. What are a few ways to show honor and respect on Memorial Day?

Parades – Does your town or city host a Memorial Day Parade? Many do, and they ask local businesses to sponsor floats to support the cost of the parade. This is a great way to show your support and honor service members, and it also gets your business name out there in a unique way to parade-goers or to folks watching on television. 

Highlight soldiers’ stories – Through email newsletters, Facebook or your other social media channels, pay respect to those who have fallen and express gratitude for those you know who are currently serving. Invite customers to share their stories as well.

Reflection: Esta oración me ensena que tener grandes o Buenos valores es la base más importante que tenemos que tener en mente  nuestra vida, algunos ejemplos de esos valores son, honestidad, amigable, elegir siempre el derecho o el correcto lado, escribir siempre en mi 100+ goals libreta, ser responsable, etc.  

Optician

Duties and responsibilities:

        * Measure clients' bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers of eyes, using measuring devices.

       *     Prepare work orders and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses.

  * Evaluate prescriptions in conjunction with clients' vocational and avocational visual requirements.

 *       Fabricate lenses to meet prescription specifications.

Salary: $33,770 in 2013. The best-paid earned $54,490 while the lowest-paid earned $21,290.

Education: Becoming an optician requires a high school diploma or an approved GED equivalent, followed by formal education and training or an apprenticeship.

Many opticians go to college for a two-year associate’s degree in optician, which involves coursework in basic anatomy, eye anatomy, algebra and trigonometry, optical physics and mathematics and administration. They also learn about precision measuring equipment and techniques and optical instrumentation. More advanced studies include classes on fitting contact lens and vision prosthetic.

Whether opticians study at a community college or university, it is recommended that students choose an optician program

Reflection: Estas palabras me ensenan que cuando hacemos algo mal lo que  conseguiremos o conseguiré será nada ya que talvez si pueda conseguir algo a cambio pero lo que llegue a conseguir serán puras cosas malas nada bueno para mi vida pero si hago algo bueno claro que conseguiré grandes recompensas en mi presente y mi futuro.

Volunteer program Volunteers are a vital resource for many schools. Volunteers bring much needed assistance, experience and knowledge to our school communities. LAUSD processed over 14,000 new school volunteers during the 2013-2014 school-years.]

Yo pienso que estos programas pueden beneficiarnos tanto a uno como estudiante como a nuestros padres ya que ayuda a que nuestros padres sepan cómo se manejan las actividades de la escuela, como eventos, o últimamente se ha visto que padres de familia recogen las comidas del desayuno que ya no se llegan a comer.

Yo creo que es una gran oportunidad estar dentro de cada uno de los programas.
